Quarterback school prepares players early for next season

With only about four months until the start of football season, the Royals must prepare to get their team ready. One way they are doing this is through the training of their quarterbacks. Quarterbacks attend what they call “quarterback school” with the training of Coach Butler.

“QB school is designed to lay the foundation of our quarterbacks. We are working on all phases of playing the position. This includes our physical mechanics, the mental approach, reading the defense, and lastly learning plays,” Butler said.
Quarterbacks attend this school during the week. They are then expected to study outside of school and then get a reflection on their studies the next week.“We go to quarterback school Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning from about 7:00 to 7:30,” junior John Shumar said.
The coaches and the staff believe that if they work hard, then they can have a successful year. Part of this process takes place early each morning during the quarterback study sessions.

In addition to these study sessions, seven on seven workouts and conditioning workouts are currently underway as well. Official practice begins in August and scrimmages will take place beginning at the end of that month.

“We have a strong core of young men who are committed to improving daily. They want to learn, develop, and be successful. Those young men that are committed to our program and philosophy can be very successful,” Butler said.
